Week 7 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Jimmy Graham and 4 Absolute Must-Starts

Andrea HangstOct 23, 2011

There's no better feeling for a fantasy GM than knowing he or she has one of the top-performing players at their position heading into a choice matchup.

It takes some of the guesswork and panic out of the week's roster decisions while providing that special thrill that comes from seeing a player's points rack up, series after series.

Here, I will detail four of these studs who always meet their high expectations and who are primed for an excellent outing in Week 7.

New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham

1 of 4

Saints TE Jimmy Graham has four consecutive 100-plus yardage games, and with one more today, he breaks Tony Gonzalez's record.

Look for him to shatter it against the Colts' weak secondary in a game that could easily become a shootout. The Saints don't have a strong pass defense either, meaning that today's game will be centered around passing, passing and more passing.

Graham is one of the more exciting players in the game, regardless of position. He's got the speed and the size of the more elite X receivers in the NFL and the versatility the tight end position provides him. He's the new Antonio Gates, and he has a great future ahead of him.

This week should prove to be one of his biggest of the season, meaning only good things for your fantasy team. Start him and never look back.

Minnesota Vikings Running Back Adrian Peterson

2 of 4

There's no reason to ever bench Adrian Peterson, but today you have twice as many reasons to feel confident starting him.

Already responsible for a ridiculous amount of the Minnesota Vikings' total offense, he will be asked to step it up even more now that rookie quarterback Christian Ponder is getting the start against the Green Bay Packers over benched veteran Donovan McNabb.

Granted, the Chicago Bears found ways to stop him last week, holding him to 39 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, but the Packers will likely key in more on Ponder than Peterson, who has found ways to elude even the most aggressive defenses.

He will likely top the 29 carries he had against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5, and it's practically guaranteed that when Peterson gets the ball that much, regardless of opponent, he will find ways to put up a great deal of yards.

It's Peterson's offense today, not Ponder's. He should benefit your fantasy team in a big way this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Mike Wallace

3 of 4

The Steelers' Mike Wallace is a top-three fantasy wide receiver, and this week, he faces the choicest of matchups as his team travels to Arizona to take on the Cardinals this afternoon.

The Cardinals have one of the worst pass defense in the league, and with safety Kerry Rhodes out for the season with a broken foot, the odds have drastically increased for another 100-plus yardage receiving day for the Steelers' No. 1 wideout.

Wallace has 33 receptions for 612 yards and four touchdowns so far this season, with 76 yards being his worst performance and 144 his best. Look for Wallace to end the day much closer to that 144-yard number with a touchdown, and perhaps two, to his name today.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo

4 of 4

Though Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is still in pain from the rib injury he suffered earlier in the season, and he's played as inconsistently as ever, the matchup this week against the St. Louis Rams is just too good to assume that Romo will do anything but play well.

Feast-or-famine fantasy quarterbacks at least have feast days, and that's the likely outcome for Romo in today's game against the Rams and their dismal secondary.

While running back DeMarco Murray will also see a lot of the offensive action, considering St. Louis is all-around poor on defense, it's Romo and his tandem of receivers that are going to drive the Cowboys to a decisive victory.

Dez Bryant and Miles Austin are both healthy for what seems like the first time this season, and it's hard to imagine either of them having much trouble getting open. And, should they struggle, there's always tight end Jason Witten, one of the league's most reliable, there to bail Romo out.

For all of his struggles, Romo hasn't thrown for under 255 yards so far this season—and the rest of his games have been well over 300 yards. He's always good for at least one touchdown, but with the Rams on the card for today, a single touchdown seems to be a conservative estimate of Romo's stat line.

Considering the number of strong fantasy quarterbacks on the bye this week, Romo's owners should breathe a sigh of relief that the oft-frustrating player is set for an honest-to-goodness great day.
