WWE Vengence: Why Randy Orton Will Win Intercontinental Title from Cody Rhodes

Alex HallOct 23, 2011

It seems as if WWE is finally going to attempt to save the Intercontinental Championship's relevance and let one of their flagship superstars, Randy Orton, carry the belt.

Don't get me wrong, I see this rivalry going back and forth for at least a month. You couldn't ask for a better feud for this championship between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes.

Considering the history between the two superstars and given their time in the faction Legacy and the way they can both own the microphone there's plenty of story to unfold here.

I believe Orton walks out of Vengeance tonight with the title in order to progress this rivalry, not to stomp Cody Rhodes's recent push. Orton and John Cena are the two most popular superstars in the WWE right now, and if "The Viper" takes hold of the Intercontinental Championship then the title in a way gets a push because one of the elite talents is holding it.

Rhodes will then demand his rematch clause sometime shortly after losing the title and we have ourselves the potential for the first intriguing rivalry for this title since Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio battled over it some time ago.

This Rhodes/Orton rivalry has everything needed in order to become a good long feud, which is what the Intercontinental title desperately needs, and if Orton wins the belt this weekend then he brings all his credibility and popularity to the championship.

Rhodes will have the opportunity to win the title back for sure in what should be another great match between the two superstars, but Orton winning the title gives the rivalry and the title itself a push all at the same time.
