Tim Tebow: Why Broncos QB Will Roll Dolphins' Struggling Defense

The Denver Broncos will be starting a new quarterback this Sunday in the team's Week 7 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The move has gotten attention league-wide this week, as many have been waiting for the day that Tim Tebow would finally be an NFL starter.

This week against the Dolphins is arguably the most favorable situation for the Florida Gators legend. Tebow is essentially playing a homecoming game in Miami, and take on a winless Dolphins team that seems to have struggled all season to build an identity and put together four quarters of solid football.

Not to mention, their defense is what has hurt these Dolphins all season. A team that struggles to cover receivers with their secondary, the Dolphins are the 29th-ranked passing defense in the league, giving up 284 yards per game.

Vontae Smith, 23, and Sean Smith, 24, are two solid cornerbacks, but are young and evidently lack much consistency. With time, the two may well be strong cover corners in the league, yet for the time being it will play much into Tebow's favor that they are young, inexperienced cornerbacks in the league.

If the lack of experience in the secondary allows Tebow to get the ball downfield, this will play into his advantage running the football and making plays with his feet, something he does arguably better than any quarterback in the league.

He has a whopping seven rushing touchdowns and 264 yards in just five starts in the league. Talk about some numbers.

Despite a quick, talented linebacking core led by Kevin Burnett and Karlos Dansby, Tebow should find his room to run the football by opening up the secondary with the passing game.

It might be his first start of the season, and he may not have the "proper mechanics" that he so often gets downplayed for, yet at the end of the day Tebow should have a strong outing for the Broncos on Sunday.
