Tim Tebow and the 4 Most Anticipated QB Starts in the Last Decade

Ryan AlfieriOct 23, 2011

I don't remember a more hyped game between two last-place teams. The showdown between the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos has quickly become the talk of the NFL, all because of Tim Tebow.

In fact, I would bet that there are going to be more University of Florida fans in Sun Life Stadium this weekend than Dolphin fans. The borderline insanity that surrounds Tebow wherever he goes does not seem to be dying anytime soon.

Let's take a look at some of the most anticipated QB debuts of the past decade.

Eli Manning, 2004

1 of 4

Manning's 2004 debut had all of the ingredients for an unhealthy amount of anticipation. First of all, he is a Manning, and the expectations that come with that last name are immeasurable.

Sprinkle in the fact that he plays in New York, the Giants benched Kurt Warner and the way they made Giants fans wait until the middle of the season to see Manning and you get a highly-anticipated debut.

Michael Vick, 2001

The fact that Vick was such an unique athlete for the position made the entire football world intrigued by how his skill would translate to the NFL. For Vick's unique style of play alone, it made his debut one of the most anticipated of the last decade.

JaMarcus Russell, 2007

Even though he was one of the biggest busts in NFL history, the beginning of the Russell era was long-awaited for Raider fans.

Once viewed as a "savior" for the franchise with his exceedingly strong arm, the long-awaited debut of Russell was with a lot of anticipation for a franchise that was looking to finally start winning again. Unfortunately for Raider fans, that never panned out.

Brett Favre, 2009

This was certainly not Favre's debut, but for one of the most polarizing players in the history of the game, taking on his former team as a member of their rivals for the first time, on Monday Night Football, this start was one of the most hyped regular season games of all time. The Vikings won the game, and handily.
