WWE Vengeance 2011: Why Big Show vs. Mark Henry Will Be an Epic Rivalry

Daniel MasseyOct 23, 2011

Yesterday, I wrote an article explaining how Big Show has ruined Mark Henry’s monster run. Despite my reservations about their match on Sunday, I do believe this feud could be one for the ages.

The World’s Strongest Man taking on The World’s Largest Athlete sounds larger than life on paper, but it is whether the two WWE superstars can milk this feud for all it is worth or whether it will just be a flash in the pan and be forgotten by Survivor Series.

Admittedly, Mark Henry has never been the greatest superstar in the world, but he is finally in the place he has strived to be and he is making the most of it. I am behind him and his reign of destruction, as I believe he pulls it off extremely well.

His promos are definitely up to scratch despite the fact that they can be repetitive. Don’t get me wrong, he’s no Rocky Maivia, but he’s definitely as skillful as he needs to be. I do become engrossed when he is talking as he lets his anger shine through and it excites me to see what superstar he will direct this anger towards.

Big Show is also a veteran of the game who has learned a lot over the course of his WWE career. As far as working hard goes, he has definitely proved he can work big matches. He would definitely make a good World Heavyweight Champion before he retires, but I don’t want him to beat Mark Henry for it yet.

This feud could be epic. If the match on Sunday goes down without a hitch and without interference, it could be the start of something brilliant. However, there is one condition—Henry must win.

If Henry does not win then there is absolutely no reason to carry on the feud and I fear that Henry would just fade into the obscurity he emerged from a few months ago.

However, if Henry wins cleanly over Big Show, he will feel humiliated and probably come back for a second round. He knows he can get the better of Mark Henry as we have seen nothing but for the last few weeks. So it could evolve into a classic case of becoming obsessed with beating the World’s Strongest Man.

It is two titans clashing in the ring, the only problem is, I’m not sure whether their stardom is big enough to warrant a match of the ages just yet. But if WWE can build a superstar from obscurity to the biggest thing on SmackDown, surely they can build this feud to look like two huge men clashing in a larger than life battle?

I believe they can, but for it to work this feud needs to last over many pay-per-views and culminate at the Granddaddy of them all.

This feud needs to carry on through Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble. I can see this being a really long feud, longer than we have seen before, but only if the writers have the patience to see it through.

This rivalry has been a long time coming if you ask me and has been brilliant up to now, apart from Big Show getting the upper-hand on Mark Henry twice before Vengeance.

If this feud does indeed live up to my expectations then I think it would be a brilliant way to end both the careers of Mark Henry and the Big Show.
