Fantasy Football Week 7 Waiver Wire: Assessing Terrelle Pryor's Stock

Jon DoveOct 23, 2011

According to Pro Football Talk, Terrelle Pryor could make his NFL debut today versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Oakland Raider's head coach Hue Jackson is believed to have put together several packages specific to Pryor. Jackson is one of the more creative offensive minds in all of football.

Pryor is an interesting player, as he has the athletic ability to play several different positions. He was drafted as a quarterback, with Jackson stating he would stay at quarterback. However, many feel that he would be a better fit at wide receiver.

Pryor's fantasy value will ultimately be tied to what position he plays. Oakland just traded for Carson Palmer, pushing Pryor deep on the bench. I feel that if Oakland didn't acquire Palmer, Pryor would have been the starting quarterback before the end of the season.

Of course, Oakland did acquire Palmer, meaning that Pryor will likely only see snaps in specifically designed plays. He doesn't hold much fantasy value, especially when Palmer is ready to go.

Palmer is a traditional quarterback, who works off the rhythm of the game. Constantly subbing him in and out of the game would hurt his play.

If you are in a deeper league, you could maybe pick up Pryor and stash him on your bench. He has the potential to be a red-zone threat. His ability to both throw and run would make him tough to defend. However, he will not be someone you can count on to score fantasy points each week.

Oakland has several unique playmakers who all demand touches. Jackson has designed unique plays for all of his playmakers. However, don't expect to see Pryor get more than three touches a game.

Long term, Pryor has the potential to develop into a good NFL quarterback. He has the opportunity to learn from both Jackson and Palmer. Oakland's commitment to Palmer and lack of draft picks means Pryor is the quarterback of the future.
