BCS Rankings: Oregon, Nebraska and Teams That Deserve Higher Rankings

Andrew KulhaOct 23, 2011

As a college football fan, there is no greater travesty than knowing a team should be ranked higher in the BCS rankings than they really are.

In fact, it's probably one of the most helpless feelings known to sports.

Consider the fact that the BCS rankings are controlled by computers, which have no emotion.

Everything is calculated by cold-hard statistics.

While that may be a good 80 percent of the reality of sports, there is still so much emotion, passion and circumstance that should play into things.

Take a huge blowout win for instance. It will count for the team, but the fact that they absolutely demoralized another football team won't be counted because statistically that team was far inferior.

It also works against teams in big rivalry wins, especially with two opponents ranked rather close to each other.

The moment never shows up in the rankings, and for college football fans, that's probably the worst part about the BCS.

With all that in mind, here are a few teams that deserve to be ranked higher, but probably won't be:

Oregon

The Ducks went into Colorado and absolutely man-handled the Buffaloes, 45-2.

While on paper this seems like a rather normal Oregon game, the fact remains it's still incredibly impressive. Oh, and Darron Thomas and Heisman candidate running back LaMichael James both didn't play.

Nebraska

You have to give Nebraska credit for beating up a 1-6 Minnesota team 41-14 on the road. The problem is, they will get absolutely no credit for it because their opponent was Minnesota.

Houston

Unfortunately, not many people even acknowledge that the Houston Cougars exists as a BCS team.

The fact remains that they are arguably one of the most explosive offenses in football, and they now boast quarterback Case Keenem, the newest NCAA all-time offensive production leader. He led the Cougars to a 63-28 stomping of Marshall.
