BCS Projections: Georgia Tech and More Teams That Most Drop from Rankings
The second week's version of the BCS standings will look much different from what we saw in the first week.
No, the top will look relatively similar. LSU is undeniably deserving of the No. 1 ranking. But looking down the rankings a little bit, there are some teams that just don't deserve to be ranked anymore.
I am not questioning why they were in the Top 25 in the first place, but their performance on Saturday was just not worthy of a Top 25 ranking.
Georgia Tech
A Cinderella start for the Yellow Jackets is now completely forgotten. They have dropped consecutive games to unranked opponents, and now have a two-game stretch against Clemson and Virginia Tech.
They entered the week as the No. 22 team in the country. After a convincing loss to a talented, yer unranked Miami team, Georgia Tech doesn't belong in the Top 25.
The ACC is generally not viewed to highly in the eyes of the pollsters. They would need to beat both Clemson and Virginia Tech to get anywhere near the Top 25 again.
Illinois
A case could be made that the Fighting Illini was always overrated. Still, as long as they were undefeated, that argument was lost when looking at their record.
Now, after losses to Ohio State and Purdue (both unranked), Illinois doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the Top 25.
Like with Georgia Tech, their schedule doesn't get any easier. Like Georgia Tech, they will need to win the remaining games to get anywhere near the Top 25.
Washington
Washington is actually not a bad team. Unlike the previous two teams, I can make a pretty good case that they have been consistently underrated this year.
But this comes down to simple math. When you're the No. 25 team in the country and lose, you won't be there the next week.
That logic even applies when you lose to one of the best teams in the country.
