BCS Projections: Nebraska and More Overrated Teams That Will Vault Up Rankings
There are plenty of overrated teams in college football. Even though the season is relatively deep now, many of the top teams remain comparatively untested.
The following teams, on the other hand, have all been tested, but have failed that test at least once.
I am not implying that these teams won't be ranked higher, or shouldn't be ranked higher. They all won on Saturday and should be at least where they are.
Still, they will be exposed for being overrated at some point this year.
Nebraska
I certainly don't want to judge a team too much for losing to Wisconsin, in Madison. That's a very difficult place to play and Wisconsin is certainly one of the top teams in the country. Even though that was a blowout, reading too much into it would be foolish.
But the Cornhuskers have struggled far too much against teams that they should have beaten far more easily. Saturday's 41-14 win against Minnesota was nice, but shouldn't be overblown.
Still, they entered as the No. 13 team in the country. I don't think they are that good, but their BCS ranking will reflect nothing worse than that.
Virginia Tech
Like Nebraska, you don't want to read too much into their one loss. Yes, it was a rather convincing home loss, but Clemson is one of the best teams in the country.
I have been left extremely unimpressed by the Hokies in their wins. Their record would indicate that this team plays to the level of their opponent, which is scary.
Virginia Tech is currently ranked No. 12 in the country. I can promise you that there are more than 11 teams in the country that are better.
Texas A&M
It's amazing to me that the Aggies are two poor second-half showings away from being a National Championship contender.
Of course, if they didn't have those poor performances, they would have two quality wins on the schedule and I wouldn't have anywhere near the ammunition to call them overrated.
So, let's deal with what actually has happened.
Texas A&M has been awful against their better competition this year. On their defense alone, they are certainly not worthy of a Top 25 ranking. Yet, coming off of a big win against Iowa State, they will be no worse than No. 17 in the country.
