Air Force vs. Boise State: Will Broncos Drop Behind Wisconsin After Close Win?

Michael MillOct 22, 2011

In most cases, it doesn't matter if a team wins a game ugly. We have heard it time and time again: A win is a win, it doesn't matter how you get it at the end of the day.

Usually that holds true, but it's not the case for the Boise State Broncos.

The Broncos have been overlooked year after year despite consistent success.

The huge BCS debate began in Boise State after the 2006 season, when the Broncos finished the year undefeated at 13-0 with an overtime win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

Since then, Boise State has gone 10-3, 12-1, 14-0 and 12-1.

They have yet to see a National Championship berth.

This year, the Broncos are off to another fantastic start. They are sitting at 7-0 after today's victory over Air Force.

The problem with today's win, however, is that the Broncos didn't win big.

With such an unimpressive schedule, Boise State is expected to win every game by an overwhelming margin.

For Boise State to get the respect they deserve, they have to win by 30 or more points each and every week.

Their 37-26 win against Air Force today isn't going to help them out in the BCS rankings.

That will especially be the case if Wisconsin is able to take out No. 16 Michigan State tonight. It will hurt their chances even further if Wisconsin is able to win that game big.

After today's performance, a Wisconsin win will likely drop Boise State out of the Top 5 in the BCS rankings.

The road for Boise State may be easy from here on out, but they still have plenty of obstacles to overcome.

If this team wants a shot at the National Championship, they need to absolutely crush opponents from here on out and hope that other undefeated teams are knocked off.

Otherwise, they could suffer the same fate as they have in recent years.
