NFL Week 7 Picks: Atlanta Falcons and Road Teams That Will Win Big

Justin WeltonOct 22, 2011

A couple road teams find themselves in big games for different reasons in Week 7 of the National Football League. Here are three teams that will make statements on the road.

Denver Broncos

Whether you like Tim Tebow or you hate him, you can’t deny his passion for football. Passion for the game won’t get you anywhere, but he also has another trait—a will to win.

He did it in college, and the jury is still out if he can do it in the NFL.

Tebow will get his opportunity this weekend against the Miami Dolphins. This may be one of the most anticipated games between two horrible teams in the history of the NFL. These teams are a combined 1-9.

If Denver wants any chance of staying in the AFC West chase, they need to win this game.

Atlanta needs to prove to the naysayers that they can beat a quality team on the road. They will get a glorious opportunity to do so in Detroit against the Lions in Week 7.

With only one road victory (Seattle Seahawks) on the season, Atlanta will face their toughest challenge to date.

If they could get Michael Turner going in the running game, it would bode well for their success. Teams that have had success against the Lions have been able to run the ball. He has proven to be a reliable back this season, posting 499 yards rushing.

Detroit finally lost a game. We will learn more about the mindset of the Lions this week if they can bounce back and get a victory. If they can’t, maybe they are one step closer to being back to reality.

It may not seem like a great road victory, but the Pittsburgh Steelers need to have any quality victory on the road they can get. They haven’t done so all year long—unless you count the Indianapolis Colts.

This is the perfect trap game for the Steelers.

Arizona is coming off a bye this week. They will have their best game-plan ready for Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers.

Pittsburgh has three straight tough tests against New England, Baltimore and Cincinnati following this week. They may be looking past Arizona for the weeks ahead.

The Steelers have had too many poor performances compared to quality ones in 2011. They need to take care of this game, because good teams beat inferior teams on the road.
