NFL Picks Week 7: Detroit Lions Will Come Back to Earth with 2nd Straight Loss

Brian MaziqueOct 22, 2011

The Lions had been flying higher than Snoop Dogg on the Space Shuttle before last week's home loss to the now equally elevated San Francisco 49ers.

The Niners gutted out a tough win, afterwards Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz nearly came to blows after an aggressive hand-shake and back pat.

The Lions will face the inconsistent Atlanta Falcons in Week 7. The Falcons have plenty of talent, but they have struggled to put together a complete game of football. They actually had the Green Bay Packers beat for over a half, but couldn't continue to move the ball and dropped that game in Week 5.

Though the Lions are winning, they have been anything but dominant with the exception of the Chiefs game. For whatever that is worth, I'm not sure Kansas City would beat LSU by more than ten points right now.

The Lions have been impressive through the air as well as defending the pass. My early choice for NFL MVP, Calvin Johnson has been nothing short of spectacular and Matt Stafford has managed to stay healthy.

The Lions Defense' has also been good against the pass. They currently rank sixth against the pass in the NFL. The Lions issues have come in the running game, both offensively and defensively. That is why I am picking Atlanta to hand Detroit their second consecutive loss.

The Falcons through all of their struggles has maintained a solid rushing attack. The numbers are a bit deceiving as they fell behind in a few games. This of course, eliminated their ability to run the ball in volume.

Michael Turner and the Falcons run-blocking is still the best aspect of their team and the Lions counterparts for those units are the Lions weakest units.

Lions fans will say "uh-oh" and Lions haters will say, "told you so", but I have the Lions dropping to 5-2, losing to Atlanta, 26-20.
