BCS Standings 2011: Nebraska and 3 Overrated Teams That Don't Deserve Their Rank

The BCS standings are some of the most controversial in all of sports, and there is a litany of teams that don’t deserve the love they are afforded.

Certain teams just make too much money for college football to not be part of the rankings, and other programs have too much clout in the game to not be highly considered.

No matter what the reason is, the following teams are ranked by the BCS but don’t deserve the love they are getting.

No. 13 Nebraska: The Nebraska Cornhuskers are one of the most overrated teams in the nation, yet they are being heralded as one of the best, not because of anything they have really done this season, but because of where Ohio State currently sits in the standings.

If there is a Big Ten team that deserves this No. 13 spot, it would be the Nittany Lions of Penn State, whose only loss came to the undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide.

No. 20 Auburn: While it’s good to see them dropping in the rankings, this team should not even be in the Top 25. They are only there because of the championship they won last season and the BCS’s desire to keep Auburn towards the top.

It’s alright, though. LSU will destroy the Auburn Tigers this week and banish them to look from the outside in on the Top 25 for the rest of the season.

No. 24 Texas: The Longhorn Network wont draw nearly as much money if their precious Texas Longhorns aren’t ranked in the BCS standings, so that’s how a 4-2 team snuck in over way more deserving programs.

While Kansas may not be able to prove the Longhorns inept, there are plenty of games on the rest of the schedule that will expose Texas as the mediocre team they really are.
