Week 8 College Football Predictions: Clemson and Top 25 Teams on Upset Alert

Michael MillOct 22, 2011

When the BCS rankings came out earlier in the week, as expected there were a bunch of complaints.

The BCS is an imperfect system, but unfortunately it's one that we will have to live with at least for the 2011 season.

Now it's a time to look at which of those ranked teams could get knocked off their pedestal this weekend.

Here are three Top 25 teams who are on upset alert.

No. 22 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Last week, the world witnessed that the Yellow Jackets offense was very capable of being stopped.

A shocking 24-21 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers brought their undefeated season and National Championship dreams to an end.

Now, for the second week in a row, they have to be careful not to get knocked off by an unranked opponent.

The Miami Hurricanes have been extremely inconsistent this year. However, when they are on, it seems like they can beat anybody.

If the good Miami team shows up, this could be another upset loss for Georgia Tech.

No. 21 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State has got to figure out their quarterback situation if they are going to be legitimate contenders this season.

It appeared last week that Matt McGloin may have figured something out, but it's still up in the air.

This Penn State defense can't be relied on to hold every team to 11.6 points.

This week the Nittany Lions travel to Northwestern to take on a Wildcat team that has quarterback Dan Persa back under center.

When healthy, Persa has the ability to be one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the nation. He is a very underrated player.

He and the Northwestern offense will present the biggest challenge Penn State has seen since Alabama. The offense will need to step up and match it.

No. 7 Clemson Tigers

I'm not saying that Clemson is going to lose, but they better not overlook North Carolina.

The Tigers have taken down three ranked opponents this year, and have to be feeling good about their chances on finishing the season undefeated.

They need to be careful not to get ahead of themselves.

They suffered a scare last week from Maryland. This week they face one of the more talented, unknown, running backs in the nation.

Freshman Giovani Bernard currently ranks ninth in the nation with 767 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

Maryland exposed this rushing defense last week. Clemson needs to be on the top of their game and ready for Bernard this weekend.
