NFL Predictions: 20 Burning Questions Heading into Week 8
Tebow leads a comeback, Suh believes in "karma" and the Ravens lose a game they should have never been behind in.
Welcome to Week 8 of the NFL season.
This past week spoke volumes about the parity amongst NFL teams this year. It also spoke about how certain teams are just hanging on, playing out the string and hoping for a better fate in the NFL Draft and the 2012 season.
Almost halfway home and there are still a lot of questions out there to be answered,
Let's get right to it, shall we?
20. Is Josh Scobee the Best Kicker in the NFL?
1 of 20He may be.
Scobee, and a very stingy defense, won the game Monday night for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It did not turn the season around for the 2-5 team, but it gave them some momentum in the AFC South.
The Jaguars defense is really good.
19. Are You Surprised the Chiefs Beat the Raiders so Badly?
2 of 20Yes and no.
This is the NFL, and anything happens on any given Sunday. The Raiders were missing Jason Campbell and Darren McFadden.
It proved that first, Kyle Boller is not the answer. Second, Carson Palmer is rusty. Third, this team misses its two best offensive weapons.
And finally, the team will get McFadden back sooner than Campbell, but the Raiders may regress if Palmer is on the field.
18. Is Urban Meyer the Next Coach of the Miami Dolphins?
3 of 20He looked very happy in the sidelines with team owner Stephen Ross.
Meyer is not an NFL coach. I expect him to get offers from Ohio State and other big-time schools when they make changes.
The spread offense will not work in the NFL.
The answer is NO.
17. Could Anyone Have Beaten the Saints Last Week?
4 of 20The answer is no.
That is the best game any team has played since the Jaguars beat the Dolphins in the 1999 AFC playoffs, which Jacksonville won and retired Dan Marino 62-7.
The only thing that the Saints may have done is make the seat Colts head coach Jim Caldwell is sitting in a lot hotter.
Right now, he is in the lead to be fired first amongst coaches.
16. Are the Ravens in Trouble after the 12-7 Loss to the Jaguars?
5 of 20No, they are not in trouble. But like most teams in the AFC, there are major questions to be answered about them.
Joe Flacco needs to stop being a "light-switch" quarterback where we see his brilliance sporadically.
The running game needed to step up, and Ray Rice needs to hold on to the ball.
The defense is still stellar. There just needs to be a balance.
15. Are the Redskins Ready to Implode?
6 of 20It sure looks that way.
Head coach Mike Shanahan said there were good things to take from John Beck's performance, but with troubles in the running game and at receiver, this season is sinking fast for the 'Skins.
Shanahan's job could be on the line the rest of the year.
14. What Did You Think of Christian Ponder's Performance?
7 of 20I am biased as a FSU graduate, but as a writer, I think he did pretty well.
I cannot say he and the Vikings should have won this week, but they played better.
But there will be more growing pains, so Vikings fans need to be prepared.
13. Who Is This Guy DeMarco Murray?
8 of 20He was from Oklahoma, and now, everyone should know who he is.
Regardless of the fact that the Cowboys played against the Rams, when you run for over 250 yards in a contest, everyone takes notice.
The Cowboys have needed more weapons on offense this year, I think they just found another one.
12. Will Rex Ryan Keep His Mouth Shut?
9 of 20You know that is not going to happen.
But, maybe Ryan will caution himself when speaking about how he might pine for another team.
That can only get you fired in this NFL.
It's a good thing the Jets won. Think of what would have happened if they had lost.
11. Should We Worry About the Detroit Lions Yet?
10 of 20Not yet, but...
The Broncos are next on the schedule, and with Tim Tebow in the game, anything is possible.
While Ndomukong Suh believes in karma, Tebow uses karma to win ball games.
It should be interesting.
10. Should We Believe in the Steelers Now?
11 of 20They are getting better and Ben Roethlisberger is putting up monster numbers.
He is playing at such a good level right now.
I would wait another week or two to anoint them as the best in the AFC North.
Cincinnati is much better, and the Ravens will still have something to say about the division title.
9. Still No Chris Johnson?
12 of 20I want to put an APB out on him.
Where is the "playmaking?"
He is so talented and has proven just how badly the players needed the preseason this year because of the lockout.
Hopefully, he will come around.
8. Is Gary Kubiak's Job Safe?
13 of 20I heard Paul Kuharsky of ESPN on 1010XL Radio on Tuesday.
He said the Texans need to make the playoffs.
I think this team needs to show something more than a playoff appearance. They need to go deep in the postseason.
7. Dallas Won, Are Things Better in Big D?
14 of 20They are better, but not solid.
Dallas is 3-3 on the season and finally found a running game.
If they can find consistency from Tony Romo and the defense plays like it did Sunday, then they are a playoff contender.
6. Should Reggie Bush Have Called out His Own Team?
15 of 20I think every player is entitled to their own opinion.
So is Reggie Bush.
But he did not do anything really shocking by stating the obvious.
The only issue with this is Bush is not "the man" on the Dolphins, so it looks like sour grapes.
But he can say what he wants and let the backlash begin.
5. Will Green Bay Lose This Season?
16 of 20I have been asked this already.
I would have to say yes, but you never know.
This is such a good offense and to be honest, I want to see New Orleans and the Packers play again and see what happens.
The defense gives up a great deal of points, and that concerns me.
If they continue to play at this high a rate, anything is possible.
It would be awesome that a team who won the Super Bowl rides the momentum and wins all their remaining games.
4. Why Was There No Love for T.O.?
17 of 20I hate when players think they are bigger than the game.
Terrell Owens is a great talent, and his injury surely put a bad spin on his season.
And at 37 years old, a team may take a flier on him (Patriots), but he will not make a major contribution.
Teams like Jacksonville need to look his way because he is better than what they have in their receiving corps.
And that is a scary thought.
The offer from the Arena Football League was hilarious.
3. Andy Dalton or Cam Newton
18 of 20Let's call this a push.
Newton is the young and exciting quarterback who helps his team with his arm and his feet.
Dalton is the calm rookie who knows where to look for second and third receivers and has his team in playoff contention.
Both are playing the game very well.
Newton is more exciting, Dalton is more of a true quarterback.
I like the future for both of them.
2. What NFL Coordinators Could Get a Chance at a Head Coaching Job?
19 of 20There are a few on my short list.
I think the first is Mike Zimmer, defensive coordinator of Cincinnati. Next would be Brian Schottenheimer of the Jets and then Perry Fewell of the Giants.
Others will crop up, maybe a Rob Ryan in Dallas or a Greg Olson in Tampa Bay.
Don't worry, there will be lots of names to surface when the season ends.
1, Are You Going To Comment on Ndomukong Suh's Comments?
20 of 20I did not see the game. I did not read all the comments. All I know is that for decades, players have made their reputations on play and their mouths.
If we really take what Suh said or did not say to heart, then what happens to things Bryan Cox, Lawrence Tayor, Conrad Dobler, Ron Heller and Lyle Alzado said over the years or better yet, did on a field.
Suh is young and may have made an error in judgment.
Let's not crucify him just yet.
