Week 7 Fantasy Football Rankings: Redskins and the Best Defenses to Start

Eric BallOct 22, 2011

The Washington Redskins have plenty of issues at QB, but their defense is fantasy gold.

They have a brilliant mix of veteran leaders and speedy young guys to create one of the best overall units in the league.

They are currently second in the league in fewest passing TDs allowed, and ninth in passing yards. As a unit, the ‘Skins only give up 321.6 yards a game—fourth best in the NFL.

Against the Carolina Panthers, that means Cam Newton won’t be putting up another ridiculous 400-yard game. Expect the Redskins to blitz Newton to death, forcing poor decisions that will result in multiple turnovers.

With DeAngelo Hall patrolling the secondary…you never know when an interception will turn into a pick-six.

Here are three other defenses to consider:

Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans

Without Andre Johnson, the Texans offense scored one touchdown last week. Only two defenses are better in the red zone than the Titans, and they are fresh coming off a bye week.

Expect the Titans to bring the heat and create more than one turnover.

Somehow the Browns are fourth stingiest when it comes to allowing passing touchdowns. This week they draw a horrific Seahawks pass offense that will start the completely unproven Charlie Whitehurst.

Also, remember that Josh Cribbs is capable of returning a punt/kick for a touchdown on any given play.

You can do a lot worse than a spot-start with the Browns this week, the defensive unit that is currently ranked fifth in the NFL in total yards allowed (321.8).

Seattle Seahawks @ Cleveland Browns

This is going to be a defensive minded affair.

No team gives up fewer yards per carry on the ground than the Seahawks, with a 3.1 average.

They are coming off a bye and the unit is as fresh as it’s been since Week 1.

Then there is the Browns offense…that is incredibly horrible (30th in rushing offense).
