2012 NFL Mock Draft: Who Are the Top First Round WRs?

Chris TrapassoOct 21, 2011

Similar to last year, the 2012 NFL Draft class is loaded with some powerful and tremendously gifted wide receivers.

A.J. Green and Julio Jones have already made their mark as rookies. Next year, these three wide receivers should be able to come in and produce from Week 1 regardless of which team drafts them.

Alshon Jeffery

Jeffery has Calvin Johnson-esque big-play ability. He has 20 touchdowns in two and half seasons at South Carolina. He has also caught more than 160 passes during that time.

At 6'4'', 230 pounds, he is similar in size and stature to the Lions' stud wideout.

I don't see how Jeffery gets out of the top five, especially with receiver-needy teams like the Rams and Vikings getting off to such a horrible start.

He's produced through some very inconsistent quarterback play as a Gamecock and is a huge factor anytime he steps on the field because of his freakishly athletic skill set.

Justin Blackmon

Many believe Blackmon would have been a Top 15 selection had he entered himself in the 2011 NFL Draft.

After his 111-catch, 1,782-yard 20-touchdown season last year, scouts expected Blackmon to dominate and he has.

He's got 50 catches and six touchdowns through six games and is leading his Oklahoma State team to national title contention.

Blackmon can do it all at 6'1'', 215 pounds. He hasn't disappeared in any game in a year in a half. His "worst" performance came this year in a blowout win against Tulsa in which he caught seven balls for 57 yards and scored a touchdown.

Michael Floyd

Floyd has been a staple of the Notre Dame offense since 2008.

At 6'3'', he typically overpowers cornerbacks and safeties and has very strong hands when he goes up for jump balls.

He's a decent route runner and is great after the catch for his size.

Similar to Blackmon, he rarely disappears for long stretches and has been extremely productive as a member of the Fighting Irish.

He has three games of 12 or more catches this season and had two 11-catch outings last season.
