Fantasy Football Week 7: Carson Palmer and 5 Players Set To Fail

Eric BowmanOct 21, 2011

Week 7 of the NFL regular season is here, and several fantasy football owners are counting on big-time players and new additions to help get a win in their fantasy league.

Too often are owners excited about their waiver-wire pickups, only to have it blow up in their face. Even the elite players fantasy football owners heavily rely on can fall flat on their face from time to time.

The unknown is part of what makes fantasy football fun, but it sure can be a letdown when you lose.

Here are five players sure to flop in Week 7.

Montario Hardesty

1 of 5

Montario Hardesty continues to get more carries than Peyton Hillis, and there's a chance he is the feature back this Sunday since Hillis may not play.

Still, he isn't going to produce well because the Seattle Seahawks are pretty good at stopping the run. The Seahawks rank fourth in the league against the run, and are only allowing opposing running backs an average of 3.1 yards per carry. Plus they're coming off a bye, which means they're well rested and Hardesty doesn't stand a chance.

Hardesty struggled to find success against the Oakland Raiders last week, which is a bad sign considering they're 21st in the league against the run.

Shonn Greene

2 of 5

Shonn Greene may be getting more touches, but he's not worth starting in fantasy football this week. He's had two good games this season, and I don't see a third happening on Sunday afternoon.

The Jets take on the Chargers, and you know that Rex Ryan is going to let LaDainian Tomlinson have more opportunities this weekend since he's playing his old team.

Greene will get around 15-20 touches, but he isn't make the most of his carries. He's only scored two touchdown this season, and he's not getting his third on Sunday.

Matt Ryan

3 of 5

Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of Matt Ryan. I love the Falcons, and I even own his jersey. But he's not a good fantasy quarterback.

Several people thought this would be the year he breaks out as a fantasy star, but the fact of the matter is, the Atlanta Falcons heavily rely on their run game with Michael Turner.

Sure, Ryan might throw a couple touchdowns, but he doesn't put up enough yards to really dominate fantasy football. In fact, in his last two games he didn't even throw over 170 yards.

Ryan takes on the Detroit Lions this week, and I fully expect them to use the ground-and-pound to control the clock.

I still love Matty Ice, but just not in fantasy football.

Plaxico Burress

4 of 5

One Sunday afternoon game will be a low-scoring affair, as defense will be key in the Chargers vs. Jets game.

I don't see either team succeeding much on offense, which means very few looks towards Plaxico Burress. Those who drafted him were very happy after Week 1, but he's only had one good game since then.

Burress isn't even worth a flex spot this week because he's going up against the No. 1 pass defense, and the Jets are starting to get back to the ground-and-pound, which means Burress needs to be on your bench.

Carson Palmer

5 of 5

Palmer went from being owned in a about two percent of leagues to almost 30 once the Oakland Raiders traded for him. Earlier in the week it was announced that he was going to start for the Raiders, but now it appears that's not the case, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter

It's not a guarantee he won't be starting, but I still don't feel safe starting him in the fantasy world. First off, he's going to be very rusty, and he doesn't have good chemistry with these new receivers.

While Palmer is familiar with head coach Hue Jackson, I still don't think he'll play a ton on Sunday. Don't get me wrong, he's a great pickup, but he's just not ready to shine in fantasy football. Give him a couple weeks and all will be well.
