NFL Picks Week 7: 5 Sunday Prop Bets Everyone Needs To Make

Jeff GrantOct 21, 2011

Week 7 of the 2011 NFL regular season has 13 scheduled games and sports books are offering plenty of wagering opportunities.

Oddsmakers have really stepped up their efforts in offering proposition wagers due to the popularity of fantasy football, giving bettors a chance to profit in watching their favorite players.

Let's take a look at five bets that will have you cashing at the windows Sunday.

Carson Palmer, Passing Yards

1 of 5

We've already moved the line on this proposition wagering by five yards, but I'm still suggesting a play on it at the current number.

Carson Palmer is expected to make his debut for the Oakland Raiders, taking over for the injured Jason Campbell.

The Raiders haven't thrown for more than 213 passing yards in at least the last 10 meetings against the Kansas City Chiefs, which still places us well below the number being offered.

Pick: Under 225.5 passing yards (-115)

John Beck, Passing Yards

2 of 5

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has made the decision to start John Beck over Rex Grossman, but that certainly doesn't mean he'll be on the field for all 60 minutes.

Just the possibility of going back to Grossman offers us value on this wager.

The biggest mistake the Redskins could make is not running the football Sunday, considering that the Carolina Panthers rank 31st in the NFL in allowing 140.3 yards per game.

Did I mention that Beck has yet to throw for over 177 yards in an NFL game during his career?

Exactly.

Pick: Under 225.5 passing yards (-115)

Michael Turner, Total Rushing and Receiving Yards

3 of 5

Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner can let loose this week with a bye week upcoming, coming off a 139-yard performance on 27 carries against the Carolina Panthers.

The national sports media is in love with the Detroit Lions defensive front, but the unit as a whole is 26th in the league in surrendering 129.5 rushing yards per game.

Turner averages 95.1 rushing yards per game indoors and should easily go over this number with a catch or two as well.

Pick: Over 108.5 combined rushing and receiving yards (-110)

Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions, Score in First 7:30

4 of 5

With the type of vertical passing games that both the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions possess, it would shock me to have Sunday's game remain scoreless after the first 7:30 of the contest.

Indoor games also provide an edge when betting this type of proposition wager due to field-goal units not being affected by any type of weather.

Nothing wrong with cashing a ticket in the first few minutes on Sunday.

Pick: Falcons-Lions score in the first 7:30 of the first quarter (-180)

Cam Newton, Rushing Yards

5 of 5

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has had at least seven rushing attempts in all six games this season, giving us a tremendous opportunity of going over this number.

Washington's defense is vulnerable to dual-threat quarterbacks, allowing Philadelphia Eagles star Michael Vick to gain 134 rushing yards combined in the last two games of that rivalry.

The Panthers have one of the more balanced offenses in the NFL and will have the Redskins on their heels.

Pick: Over 34.5 rushing yards (-115)
