NASCAR DRIVERS TO "cut back" ...MY QUESTION: ON WHAT?

al asifyouknowDec 8, 2008

I'm sorry my dear friends, but this brought a smile to my face. Cut back on what?

I guess they can go back to a twin prop airplane rather than a Lear Jet. They could scale down on the motor home, you know, the one with no hot tub. They could serve the cheaper caviar rather than the Russian import, or maybe Champripple rather than the best french champagne. Oh, the sacrifice! It's got to be just awful. How can they survive?

Seriously, I'm sure most fans don't care if NASCAR drivers make zillions of dollars. These are hard times for the middle class in this country. Maybe it would be a good time for the drivers to just lay low and keep silent. Here is a quote from one of the best and richest drivers in NASCAR.

"It's stupid what we spend on motor homes and planes and all this," he said. "Do we need that? No. But things have been good for us. The sport's been good. I'm living this way because things have been very good. Now, obviously, we're having to cut back, and I have to cut back, too."

What was the purpose of that quote? Do I really need to know this driver thinks it is stupid to have a Lear Jet and a huge Motor home even though they still have them? I say, if you can afford them, own them. There is no need for an explanation, is there?

I don't know what cutting back means to someone who makes $30 million a year, do you? if you do please leave me a comment!

I'm sure by saying "we're having to cut back," some  drivers are trying to be sympathetic to all the fans and crews that have been laid off or are having a terrible time making their mortgages and bills. I understand that, but there are times, gentleman, where you may be better off to stay low and be quiet. Regular folks can't relate to your "cut back."

Most fans understand NASCAR drivers risk their lives at 200 miles and hour every week to entertain us. Fans risk nothing. Well, maybe a cut finger from opening a beer. Driving that car should be a risk well compensated. I'm sure all fans are just fine with that.

My point is, rather than telling us how you all need to cut back, just help whoever you can and for god sake keep quiet.

See you next year...
