NFL Week 7 Picks: Cam Newton's Carolina Panthers and Teams That Will Shock

Patrick ClarkeOct 21, 2011

Any given Sunday—no, not the movie—is the phrase used to describe the eye-popping results we often see in the NFL from weekend to weekend.

Every NFL Sunday produces some form of an upset, and Week 7 will be no different.

Favorites will fall and underdogs will rise, that's for sure. Here are two teams set to shock the league in Week 7:

Carolina Panthers

The 1-5 Panthers are surprisingly three-point favorites at home against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

However, don't doubt the Vegas oddsmakers just yet. Despite what their pitiful record would lead one to believe, the Panthers boast one of the league's top offenses.

Rookie quarterback Cam Newton heads the NFL's fifth-best passing attack in 2011, and Carolina had not lost by more than seven points all season until last week.

With Carolina playing at home against a 'Skins team with yet another quarterback dilemma, look for the Panthers to surprise on Sunday afternoon.

Seattle Seahawks

Many NFL fans would still consider it a shock if the 2-3 Seahawks went on the road and beat anyone else after knocking off the NFC East-leading New York Giants in their own building.

The question is, should they?

The Cleveland Browns are favorites this weekend, when they host the Seahawks as they go in search of their third win of the season.

By far the best thing going for Seattle is its eighth-ranked rushing defense, while Cleveland's offense isn't particularly good at anything in 2011.

If the Seahawks can establish Marshawn Lynch early in Week 7, Seattle will be on its way to yet another Sunday shock.
