St. Louis Rams: Will Sam Bradford Play This Weekend at Dallas?

David HeebOct 20, 2011

I've got good news, and I've got bad news. I'll give you the good news first.

This week the St. Louis Rams traded for All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Lloyd from the Denver Broncos, finally getting some help for their young franchise quarterback Sam Bradford.

Now for the bad news.

Sam Bradford has not practiced this week after suffering a high ankle sprain on the final play of the game versus the Packers, and it appears backup A.J. Feeley will be throwing to Lloyd instead of Bradford. That is the definition of things going from "bad to worse" for St. Louis Rams fans.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Bradford "didn't even venture onto the field for practice."  With Feeley taking all the reps in practice this week, I would guess that Bradford is doubtful for Sunday's game versus the Cowboys. Of course, that is not the official word, it's just my feeling.

I think the Rams should sit Bradford this weekend.  If he has no mobility, he would be a sitting duck for the Cowboys pass rush, led by star linebacker DeMarcus Ware.

That would be a lousy situation for any quarterback, but when you consider how bad the Ramsoffensive line has been this season, do we really want to expose Bradford to that kind of punishment?

As I wrote earlier this week, Rams owner Stan Kroekne better start thinking about protecting Bradford, a player the organization has invested heavily in. Bradford has spent the first six weeks of the season running for his life. If he has a bum ankle, that is only going to make matters worse.

So it looks like the "Bradford to Lloyd" combo might have to wait at least one more week. But that's okay, Rams fans have been waiting for this offense to take off since...

The Greatest Show on Turf?

Has it been that long? Oh well, we can wait one more week.

Update: It is reported that Bradford will in fact be starting Sunday in the Week 6 matchup versus Dallas, according to Fox Sports.
