NFL Predictions Week 7: New York Jets and Teams Sure to Lose This Week

Nicholas GossOct 21, 2011

The New York Jets are one of many teams that need a win this week to improve their chances of making the NFL playoffs in January.

The Jets have a tough game against the San Diego Chargers, who at 4-1 are off to an unusually good start. The Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, and Oakland Raiders all have crucial games this week.

Which ones are certain to lose? Let's find out.

1. Houston Texans

The Houston Texans don't play well in big games, and this week's matchup against the Tennessee Titans will determine who leads the AFC South division heading into Week 8.

With All-Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson not playing this week while still recovering from a hamstring injury, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub will once again not play to the level of an elite quarterback.

Schaub's inconsistent play has hurt Houston this season, which will not beat the Titans on Sunday and will fall behind them in the division standings.

Expect Titans running back Chris Johnson to have his breakout performance of the season against Houston on Sunday.

2. Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are giving up 283.3 yards passing per game this season, which is downright awful. With the Detroit Lions and their brilliant passing game led by quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson, the Falcons will be in for a long day on Sunday.

Stafford will have little trouble carving up the Falcons pass defense, and he could have a massive day for fantasy football owners of him.

At 3-3, the Falcons have lost the same amount of games they did in all of last season when they were the NFC's No. 1 seed in the playoffs at 13-3.

The Falcons will fall further behind in the NFC South division title race with a big loss to the Lions this week.

3. New York Jets

The New York Jets offense hasn't been consistent this season, and the play of quarterback Mark Sanchez has not been good.

Sanchez hasn't taken the next step as an NFL quarterback this season, and when he was given more responsibility in the offense early in the season, he was not able to handle it.

The Jets won't be able to stop San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, who is an elite player. Wide receiver Vincent Jackson and tight end Antonio Gates will both have big games for the Chargers, who will drop the Jets to 3-4 on Sunday, pushing them even further behind the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills in the AFC East standings.
