2012 NFL Mock Draft: Stellar QBs Available Other Than Andrew Luck
Believe it or not, there are other elite quarterbacks that will likely be in the 2012 NFL Draft.
While the popular phrase “Suck for luck” has swept the NFL nation, these two QBs are going under radar:
11. Seattle Seahawks-Matt Barkley, USC
The move makes perfect sense as the Seahawks finally solve their QB issues and Barkley is reunited with the coach that recruiting him in Pete Carroll.
Barkley has all the tools necessary to excel on the next level. He is able to throw the ball with incredibly impressive accuracy on the run.
He has shown in his three years with the Trojans that he’s a quick learner that can digest a playbook faster than most (anybody remember that incredible road win at Ohio State in the third game of his career?). His intelligence and calm demeanor under pressure are also worth pointing out.
He may throw the best deep ball in the country, has great poise and leadership and a solid frame to boot.
Not much to knock on Barkley aside from his lack of mobility.
18. Washington Redskins-Landry Jones, Oklahoma
Jones may vault up the rankings by winning a BCS Championship—but regardless, he’s going to be a great pro.
At 6-4, 230 pounds, he is the prototypical size for an NFL quarterback. He has produced some truly outstanding numbers against good competition in the Big 12.
His accuracy is right behind Luck and Jones has a strong arm capable of making all the throws you need to make at the pro level.
What really sets him apart is his field vision. Jones is constantly looking down field, analyzing all of his potential options without staring down his target. If he is doing that in college, Jones is incredibly advanced.
I think he’s better than Barkley, but with the Seahawks and Carroll poised to draft in the top 10, Jones falls to 18 with the QB desperate Redskins.
