Auburn vs. LSU: Last Minute Spread Info, Line, BCS Impact and Predictions

Andrew KulhaOct 20, 2011

Under normal circumstances, this clash between the No. 20 Auburn Tigers and the No. 1 LSU Tigers would be a very intense matchup, but these are in no way normal circumstances.

LSU has been the best team all year and there hasn't been much arguing that. The defense is one of the best in the the nation, and the offense led by the running game has caught up to be more than formidable.

Auburn would have been a very tough matchup for LSU at full strength, but news recently broke that LSU will be missing a few of their stars for this game.

Defensive star Tyrann Mathieu, running back Spencer Ware and defensive back Therold Simon are all suspended for this marquee matchup for breaking the team's drug policy.

It couldn't come at a worse time as the Auburn Tigers are coming into town, but thankfully for them Auburn will have question marks of their own, starting Clint Moseley for the first time under center.

The battle of the Tigers would have been interesting and intense before, but now it's a must-see.

Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rough, LA

When: Saturday Oct. 22 at 3:30 p.m. EST

Watch: CBS

Spread: LSU -21

Normally, I would be okay with this spread, but there are far too many questions surrounding this game.

Over/Under: 47

Both teams can score and this is a relatively low cover.

Key Injuries:

Auburn: Running back Tre Mason probable (hamstring), wide receiver Emory Blake questionable (knee), linebacker LaDarius Owens questionable (foot), offensive lineman Ed Christian questionable (back), offensive lineman Jared Cooper out for season (leg).

LSU: Center P.J. Lonergan questionable (leg)

Top 25/BCS Poll Implications:

Obviously, at No. 1 this game is huge for the LSU Tigers, but beating them would be just as big for the Auburn Tigers. It's going to be a pressure-packed situation.

Keys to Auburn Win:

With the guy under center taking starting snaps for the first time in his career, that makes running back Michael Dyer even more important. He's going to have to be the life-blood of the Auburn Tigers and they will have to commit to pounding the rock.

Keys to LSU Win:

Quarterback Jarrett Lee is going to have to step outside of himself a bit. He's known as a very good game manager, but the LSU Tigers are going to need him to step up and be a star.

Prediction

LSU has made it through every bit of adversity so far this season. It's going to be a fight, but I think they will win.

LSU 31, Auburn 20
