BCS Rankings 2011: Only BCS Certainty Is No Room for Boise State Football at Top

There are sure to be many trips, stumbles and fumbles by a few BCS teams. We are just getting started in what is sure to be a wild college football ending. The only thing I know for sure is that the Boise State Broncos will be left out in the cold once again. 

We are assured that one of the best two teams in the nation will be dealt a loss in the next couple of weeks, as LSU and Alabama will clash in the most anticipated game of the season. 

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will end the season with a barn-burner contest with one another as well. We will see shuffle after shuffle at the top of the polls. 

However, none of that will give hope to Broncos fans. They currently sit in fifth in the BCS rankings, and they should think about setting up camp because they will be there for quite some time. 

The BCS and its amazing little computers will keep Boise State at a level high enough to create some buzz, but do not think for a second its routs over lesser opponents will ever have it move into contention for the title game. 

This is really the only thing we can be sure of anymore. Granted, two of the top four are guaranteed to lose at least one game. I submit that those teams, even with one loss, can supersede Boise State's cause. 

In fact, Boise State can only lose ground if things work out as they should. If Clemson, Stanford and Clemson win out, there is a very real possibility the Broncos slide below them. 

And really, we shouldn't have an issue with that, and I think the bulk of college football fans would agree. Most of the Top 10 continues to maneuver a landmine of top-shelf competition. 

This is an exciting time of the season where the uncertainty of marquee games promises to rearrange the rankings. 

While we will see a tremendous shuffle, we have the comfort of knowing that one thing will remain constant: Boise State will be high enough to be in the conversation, but nothing more.
