NFL Power Rankings: Washington Redskins and Teams Who Will Plummet

Nicholas GossOct 20, 2011

The Washington Redskins are in second place in the NFC East division and may be on a downward spiral that takes them out of the playoff picture in the coming weeks.

After a promising 3-1 start, the Redskins are now looking up in the division and face a talented Carolina Panthers team in Week 7 of the NFL season.

Should John Beck, or Rex Grossman start at quarterback for the Redskins? Choosing wrongly may be the difference for them this week.

However, the Redskins aren't the only team who could plummet in the NFL power rankings this week, let's look at three teams who will fall after this weekend's games.

1) New York Jets

The New York Jets are not playing good football right now, and at 3-3, they are in third place behind the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills in the AFC East division.

The Jets' offense is not good, and quarterback Mark Sanchez is proving how overrated he is. Despite having the amount of quality weapons most quarterbacks dream about, Sanchez hasn't put together a consistent stretch of quality performances.

The Jets defense has been good, but it hasn't been as dominant as it's been in the past.

Against a top quarterback in Philip Rivers this week, the Jets will lose to the San Diego Chargers, who will improve to 5-1.

The Jets are not a good team right now, and after an unconvincing win against Miami on Monday night, the Jets will get dominated by the talented Chargers on Sunday.

At 3-3 the Atlanta Falcons have already lost as many games as they did all of last season, when they went 13-3 and were the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

This season hasn't gone well for Atlanta, especially on offense, where injuries and poor play have hurt them badly.

Matt Ryan isn't having a great season, and because of that, neither is All-Pro receiver Roddy White. Rookie wideout Julio Jones has battled injuries lately, and hasn't been able to be the game changing receiver he was supposed to be from Alabama.

The pass defense for the Falcons has been quite bad, and against a top Detroit Lions passing attack led by quarterback Matthew Stafford and receiver Calvin Johnson, the Falcons will be dominated on Sunday, and may even lose by 14-plus points.

3) Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins were overrated to begin the season, with two of their first three wins coming against the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams, two terrible teams.

Their offense will suffer with John Beck at quarterback, who doesn't scare defenses at all.

The Carolina Panthers, led by star rookie QB Cam Newton, will finally be able to finish a game on Sunday and drop the Redskins to 3-3.
