Week 7 Fantasy Football Start Em Sit Em: Matt Ryan and QBs You Must Sit

T.J. McaloonOct 20, 2011

The quarterback is a position you cannot guess wrong on. If you do start the wrong quarterback during a week where you’re in a close matchup, it will end up costing you a victory.

Then what happens if you miss out on your playoffs by one game, when you end up starting the wrong quarterback in a week?

This week, there are a number of elite quarterbacks that are on their bye week. You may have to rely on your backup quarterback that just sits there on the bench, taking up a roster space.

If you have to start your backup this week, stop before you put them into the starting role. Take a look below to see if you find one of your players listed as players you should not start.

Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan has been an okay quarterback on the season. He’s a reliable backup when you need a starter, because players like Tom Brady and Michael Vick have a bad matchup.

However, this week against the Detroit Lions, Ryan will have a horrible week.

The Lions have the sixth best passing defense and are prone to letting running backs have big days against them.

If you have Falcons running back, Michael Turner, start him, as he will have the huge fantasy day in this game.

Mark Sanchez, New York Jets

Sanchez, started out as a must-start quarterback. But, over the last three games he’s had point totals of -4 (vs. Baltimore) 17 (vs. New England)  and 18 (vs. Miami).

The game where he had a negative point day, was against one of the best defenses in the league in the Ravens. This week, against the San Diego Chargers, he plays a defense that is even better than the Ravens.

If you happen to have Sanchez on your bench, or as a starter, bench him now and look for a different starter.

Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears

Cutler has been on a roller coaster type season. One week he’s playing great, like last week and then the next week he’s playing horrible, like he will this week.

This week, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cutler’s performance will be dependent on if his offensive line can protect him.

However, against this Buccaneers team—that is giving up 285 yards per game, in their last five games—Cutler will be hounded all game and constantly blitzed, testing that Bears offensive line.

Don’t let the great performance against Tampa Bay make you rush to start Cutler. Sit him this week and wait for a better matchup.

Three quarterbacks that you need to sit for someone else on your team or for someone that is available on your waiver wire. If you don’t, you run the risk of losing your game this week.
