Week 7 Fantasy Football Start Em Sit Em: Tim Tebow and Trendy QBs to Avoid

Kyle VassaloOct 20, 2011

There are laughable quarterback trends flying around that are going to leave a lot of people sorely disappointed after Week 7 comes to a close. People are flocking to below-average quarterbacks and taking unwarranted risks on quarterbacks who won't generate any points.

Be it a couple decent games or a quarterback change, there are a few quarterbacks who aren't just poor pickups in the grand scheme of the season, they're not even good enough to fill a bye week void.

Here are a few trendy quarterbacks to avoid at all costs.

Tim Tebow

Tebow mania is ensuing once more. With The Broncos dubbing Tebow the starter, people are plucking him off the waiver wire, hoping he'll ignite the Broncos offense with touchdowns through the air and on the ground.

Eric Decker is decent, but he's certainly not a No. 1 receiver. Without Marshall they don't have a receiver who averages over 55 YPG and the receiving corp is amongst the worst in the league.

Unfortunately, Brandon Lloyd was traded, the Broncos have a sorry run game to fall back on and Tebow is nothing more than a ploy to fill seats while the Broncos wait until April to bring in a quarterback they actually want. Tebow is hit or miss and though they are playing the Dolphins this week, we shouldn't expect him to put up starting fantasy QB numbers in his first start this season.

Curtis Painter

It's borderline sad that this even needs to be addressed, but Curtis Painter isn't a legitimate starting quarterback, in fantasy football or for any NFL team who wants to win games. He hasn't put forth the worst season of all-time, and that alone has caused him to exceed expectations.

After back-to-back weeks of throwing for over 250 yards and two touchdowns, Painter fell off last week against the Bengals and accumulated a pedestrian 188 yards with a touchdown and a pick. These are the stats we can expect from Painter going forward.

Christian Ponder

The Vikings are moving to Christian Ponder, but in no way should we expect Ponder to take on the tall task of guiding the Vikings to victory with the team on his back. It's going to be the Adrian Peterson show on Sunday.

The Packers are lethal against the run, but the Vikings aren't about to risk putting their rookie quarterback up against the best team in the league and getting into a shootout with Aaron Rodgers. Doing so would be counterproductive and an unspectacular day is in Ponder's immediate future.
