NFL Week 7 Picks: San Diego Chargers and Division Leaders That Will Dominate

Patrick ClarkeOct 20, 2011

Just six weeks into the 2011 NFL season, several teams have already begun to separate themselves from their respective divisions.

The Green Bay Packers have managed to pick up a one-game lead on rival Detroit by winning six straight to open the year, an impressive feat by the defending Super Bowl champions who haven't lost since last December.

Other division leaders haven't fared too well this season, and are merely hanging on via a combination of favorable schedules and poor play from their divisional foes.

Without further ado, I give to you four division leaders headed for a colossal win in week 7:

San Diego Chargers (4-1)

Winners of three straight, the AFC West-leading Chargers are coming off a bye week to face the struggling New York Jets.

Although it's worth stating that three of San Diego's wins have come against Minnesota, Kansas City and Miami at home, the Jets don't exactly have a booming early season resume.

The matchup will take place in New York, which will give the Jets' offense added incentive to participate in the game, but still look for Philip Rivers and the Bolts' offense to present a difficult challenge to the league's 28th-ranked rushing defense.

San Diego should have no problems containing Mark Sanchez and the Jets' deflated running game, so I like the Chargers to keep pace with Oakland in the West and win on Sunday.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2)

It's incredible to think that just one week after being blown out by 45 points, the Bucs could return home to defeat the Saints' well-oiled offensive machine, but that's exactly what happened in week 6 in Tampa.

After a shocking win over Drew Brees and New Orleans, the Bucs are atop the NFC South division and in position to add another win to their record outside of the country in week 7.

The Bears are coming off a Sunday night beat-down over Minnesota, but Chicago will technically be on the road this weekend, as the two teams face off in London, England.

Chicago is winless on the road in 2011, and will face off against the league's 14th-best passing attack led by Josh Freeman.

The Bears' defense is far from what it was in past seasons, so look for a big day from Tampa's young offense.

Absolute Guaranteed Locks: Green Bay Packers (6-0) and Baltimore Ravens (4-1)

Both the Green Bay Packers and the Baltimore Ravens will be on their way to what looks to be eventual division titles in 2011 after easy week 7 road victories over Minnesota and Jacksonville respectively.

Both are taking on rookie quarterbacks who will be in way over their heads (Christian Ponder and Blaine Gabbert), and both have looked impressive since the season kicked off back in mid-September.

With just one loss between them, the Packers and Ravens seemed poised to meet for all the marbles in Indianapolis next February.

Although it's no guarantee that they will, their dominating week 7 wins are stone cold locks.
