Nick Diaz and the Top 5 Most Disrespectful Fighters in MMA
As we've come to realize, the sport of mixed martial arts is built on far more than just the spectacular knockouts, submissions and grueling decisions.
In fact, it's the fighters who play a crucial role in defining who MMA is today.
And, while MMA has some of the most class acts and down to earth men in the world, they've also got their fair share of jerks.
The following slides display the top five most disrespectful fighters in MMA today.
Lets take a look.
5. Frank Mir
1 of 5Frank Mir established himself forever on the list of most disrespected fighters when he stated he wished Brock Lesnar would die inside the Octagon.
Ouch.
According to MMA Fighting, Mir stated,
"I'd rather go ahead and say what's on my mind than to sit there and come up with some PC 'Oh, the guy is a great fighter and I have a lot of respect for him.' If I don't mean it, why is it even coming out of my mouth? I want to fight Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries. That's what's going through my mind."
A little disrespectful to say the least.
4. Brock Lesnar
2 of 5Lesnar hasn't been the least bit shy in proclaiming exactly how he feels about an opponent, sponsor or even his wife.
While Lesnar has always been considered the typical disrespectful guy, he crossed the line in a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan at UFC 100.
Lesnar bashed his sponsor and shared his plans with his wife to the entire fanbase in Las Vegas, Nev. when he stated,
"I'm going to drink a Coors Light. That's a Coors Light because Bud Light won't pay me nothing."
He continued on and said,
"And hell, I might even get on top of my wife tonight".
3. Chael Sonnen
3 of 5The real question is, what has Chael Sonnen said that's not disrespectful?
While Sonnen has called out a variety of fighters in the UFC, his chosen path of disrespect leads to the door step of the world's greatest fighter, Anderson Silva.
Sonnen was recently recognized for calling out Silva following his victory over Brian Stann at UFC 136 when he stated,
"Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck."
Sonnen's disrespect continued when he went WWE style on Silva,
"Superbowl weekend, the biggest rematch in the history of the business. I'm calling you out Silva but this time were upping the stakes. If I beat you, you leave the division. If you beat me, I'll leave the UFC forever."
2. King Mo Lawal
4 of 5King Mo Lawal is arguably the most disrespectful fighter in the sport of mixed martial arts today.
Lawal is most famously recognized for comparing the business of Strikeforce to a dying cancer patient.
According to Bloodyelbow,
"It feels a little weird, because it's not the same, It's like a cancer patient, like a dying cancer patient. That's how I feel like the organization is. We're just waiting for it to die, to pass. As long as I can get my fights in and they're still around, I want to get them in."
Wow, enough said.
1. Nick Diaz
5 of 5As if it were any surprise at all that Nick Diaz would be sitting atop the rankings for the most disrespectful fighters in mixed martial arts today.
While Diaz has been known as the problem child of the UFC for several years, he's most recently known for completely disrespecting UFC President Dana White by blowing off two press conferences for UFC 137.
Then, a little over a week before his bout in Las Vegas, Nev., Diaz showed up 45 minutes late to the UFC 137 media conference call.
This is just a glimpse of Diaz's disrespect, as the list goes on and on.
