2012 NFL Mock Draft: Which QBs Will Go in the First Round?
The 2011 college football season is shaping up to be exciting as always, much like the pros. The only difference being that there's plenty of QBs to go around in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Ironically though, only Miami and Indianapolis are desperately in the need of a QB, whereas all other teams are much weaker in different areas.
Therefore, don't expect too many QBs to go in round one. On the other hand, there probably won't be any left after round three because while most are not first-rounders, they are definitely second or third-rounders.
So to that end, only two QBs go in the first round and the rest await until later on.
Miami Dolphins: Andrew Luck, QB (Stanford)
It's definitely a battle for Andrew Luck between Miami and Indy, but the Colts are flat out playing better and should end up with the No. 2 overall pick. Nonetheless both get a QB and Miami gets Andrew Luck.
They are desperate for a QB, and Luck will be the best one they've had since Dan Marino. Now, will he play up to Marino's level is another thing, but there's no denying that Luck will produce.
It also will help if the Dolphins have a new head coach, so they get a fresh start at arguably the two most important positions of a football team.
WR Brandon Marshall will be happy, the offensive line will have a new sense of entitlement, and the passing game finally becomes a consistent and legitimate threat.
Indianapolis Colts: Landry Jones, QB (Oklahoma)
So the Colts just missed out on Andrew Luck, no big deal because Oklahoma's Landry Jones is arguably just as good.
Jones has been under center for the Sooners since Sam Bradford went out in 2008, and Oklahoma really hasn't missed a beat. This season they're once again in the national title race, and Jones is a Heisman candidate along with Luck.
Only difference being, Jones and the Sooners have been running a more pro-style offense than Luck, which bodes well in Indianapolis where the offense is complex.
Not that Luck wouldn't be able to transition either, but Jones will have just as much success whenever he gets the chance, because who knows when Peyton Manning will hang up the cleats for good.
It's a win-win for Indy because Jones will either jump right in, or learn under Manning, so you can't go wrong and if the latter occurs, then the Colts just hit the ground running in the post-Manning era
