Blackhawks-Coyotes Preview: Chicago Looks to Bounce Back from Loss

Michael WagnerDec 7, 2008

Game Preview:

We will have a rather short game preview tonight as it is a little last minute, but here we go. The Chicago Blackhawks will take on the Phoenix Coyotes at home tonight and look to rebound from their third period breakdown against the Detroit Red Wings.

Last night the 'Hawks seemed to have the game under complete control, but in the third period the Wings were the better team, creating offense and breezing past the Chicago defenders.

I would not blame this loss on Cristobal Huet because the Wings were getting clean looks at the Chicago net and just found any little hole in Huet's pads.

But tonight the 'Hawks plan to get back to their winning ways at the United Center. The 'Hawks have been quite successful against the Coyotes this season, winning their first two meetings against Phoenix.

It is likely that the 'Hawks might not see Ilya Bryzgalov in net tonight because they have dominated him with regularity this season, so the 'Hawks might get their first look at Mikael Tellqvist.

It is also possible that the 'Hawks will have their own back up in net tonight with Corey Crawford. Coach Quenneville has not stated whether Crawford will play tonight or not, but it is possible.

Chicago's Keys to Success:

  1. Shoot the Puck: If Bryzgalov is in net tonight they need to pepper him early because he has had trouble with stopping pucks lately. Not a good thing when you are supposed to be a top notch goalie.
  2. Defense: The 'Hawks defense got exposed versus the Wings so they will need to make adjustments tonight and then they will have an amazing chance at another victory over the Coyotes.

Player To Watch:

Jonathan Toews

Wasn't everyone freaking out when Toews wasn't putting pucks in the net? Yes they were, but now the young Captain is finding the back of the net with regularity. Last night versus the Red Wings he was very effective scoring two magnificent goals on Ty Conklin.

When Toews is hot he figures greatly into the 'Hawks offense. Make sure to keep your eye on him.
