Portland Blazers Game 22: I Slept Through The DAMN GAME!!!!
Last night was nuts.
The world famous bar I work at got SLAMMED (like it always gets on the Holidays) and I was stuck dealing with the door all by myself. Usually after work I have a beer or two (or twenty...) but last night I was a good follower of Nancy Reagan and I just said NO.
Sure, I went out...but I only had a glass of water and ate a potato melt. (Melt was good too...) then I went over to a friends house and socialized.
Afterwards I went home and watched a half hour of TV before going "Good night Moon...goodnight old lady whispering hush..." so on and so forth.
I was sure I would awake in a timely manner to maintain order and appearance of the facility by watching the Portland Trail Blazer basketball game against the Toronto Raptors.
Instead I woke up a little after one in the afternoon and was told that Steve Blake hit the game winning three to give us a one point lead and the win. Oh, and apparently the game was a ROCK STAR extravaganza if you are a Blazer fan.
Uhhhh...good thing I took such good care of my health the night before. You know, so I would do all the things I needed on Sunday.
Watch Blazers. Finalize the synopsis of my first novel, my play, write my blog, exercise on the treadmill...prepare for Dante's Sinferno (where I am a loyal follower...)
I will still be able to do all of the above...
EXCEPT WATCH THE DAMN GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right now I feel like the troll who had the third billy goat trit trotting across his bridge, and got kicked into the gutter. It hurts both emotionally and physically.
Just lousy.
You know, if we had been blown out I would not have cared. Or maybe if we won by ten. But I missed another GAME WINNING shot by the young upstart Portland Trail Blazers, who have gone 4-1 on their five game road trip. Last season, we would have gone .500 on a road trip like this.
So I guess the lesson is this...don't sleep through the damn game. It's like blinking...you never know what you are gonna miss.
Ah, shucks.
By the by, I think the Toronto Raptors are a great team, they just had some really bad breaks to start the season. It does not help they had to face a ravenous Blazer team who got blown out by the world champs on national TV two nights before.
Nevertheless, Toronto will make the playoffs out East with enough time in the season to perfect their twin tower attack of Jermaine and Bosh. Meanwhile, we still need every win we can get...because we are a serious contender to have home court advantage in the 1st round.
If that happens...
Like California Gov. Arnold told the devil in the movie End of Days: "You're a @#$@# choir boy compared to me!!! A CHOIR BOY!!!!!!"
