NFL Predictions Week 7: New York Jets and Other Upset Specials

Richard LangfordOct 19, 2011

The New York Jets are two point underdogs and they will not only cover this weekend, but they will also win. The New York Jets are at home, and they are facing an overvalued San Diego Chargers team.

The notoriously slow starting Chargers are off to an impressive 4-1 start, but those four wins have come over four of the worst teams in the league. And despite the fact they have been playing with leads against crappy teams, they are still 17th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game.

If you allow the Jets to run the ball, they can still be effective. Also, the Jets secondary is going to come up with a key turnover or two against a QB in Philip Rivers that has turned into a turnover machine. Rivers has seven INTs in five games.

The Jets will win 24-20, and they won't be the only underdog to win on Sunday.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Chicago Bears

Line: Buccaneers +1.

You have to love home dogs—especially when they are the better team. A week ago, I feared the Bucs were done, but they bounced back in a big way by beating a Saints team. The same Saints that beat the Bears by 17.

The Bears defense is struggling. This will allow a young Bucs offense to find their groove. The Bucs have a balanced offense and they will wear down the Bears' defense.

They will also use their strong defensive line to punish a weak Bears' offensive line.

Denver Broncos over Miami Dolphins

Line: Broncos +2

It is not a good policy to take the Broncos on the road...unless they are playing the Dolphins. The impact of Tebow on the Broncos remains to be seen, but he is getting a soft landing here.

The Dolphins are playing decent run defense, but they are 29th in passing yards allowed per game. This will lead to some open receivers for Tebow, and keep the Dolphins from stacking the box against them.

Also, the Broncos have been surprisingly stout on rush defense this season. And does anyone believer the Dolphins can win throwing the ball? I don't.
