Disaster Nearly Strikes Hope Solo on Dancing with the Stars

Gabe ZaldivarOct 18, 2011

Hope Solo and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy received a wake-up call on Tuesday night. It may be exactly what they need for an act that has become stale in recent weeks.

Solo danced her tail off to the tango on Monday and it was well received by the judges. The same could be said for every other dance she and her partner performed.

By the end of the night, the couple had received a 24, again. Straight eights must be a theme in Solo's nightmare by now.

Any other couple would be proud of such scores. But the 24 remains an illustration that the couple is stagnant in their efforts, not consistent.

That has to be the voters' viewpoints, as they were nearly sent off on Tuesday's elimination show. The couple was standing by Carson Kressley when we found out that the "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” star was the one voted off Tuesday.

With a sigh of relief, Solo and Chmerkovskiy go back to the dance studio to put in the work. This is the tricky part. Solo has been working hard to become something she stated she is not, a dancer.

It seems the issue is with the voters. Perhaps America has run its course with Solo, the hero we lauded from the summer World Cup.

There was hardly a bigger star on the cast when the show started, but weeks of judges' criticism and Solo rolling her eyes seems to have worn on the public.

The dancing is not the issue. She has the scores to command another couple weeks of performances. What needs to change is the image she projects as a victim of negative judging.

More smiles and less shrugs is the name of the game here on out. With that, the nation will remember why we fell in love with her in the first place.
