Week 7 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Matt Cassel and Pickups Ready to Explode

Ryan RudnanskyOct 19, 2011

The first three games of the season were undoubtedly disastrous for quarterback Matt Cassel and the Kansas City Chiefs, but the Chiefs have rebounded since and Cassel has been a big part of that.

Headed into Week 7, Cassel should be ready for a big divisional matchup, as should his teammate and favorite No. 2 receiver Steve Breaston (hint, hint).

Here are three waiver-wire pickups ready to explode in Week 7 of the NFL season.

3. James Jones, WR, Green Bay Packers

James Jones is inconsistent and he's on a Packers team that has many offensive weapons, but the fact of the matter is he's been producing lately.

In his last three games, Jones has a combined 223 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He's scored in each of his last three games. And he's facing a Minnesota Vikings pass defense that is giving up 269.5 passing yards per game and just allowed Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler to pass for 267 yards and two touchdowns.

I suggest riding the hot hand and burning your opponents in the process.

2. Steve Breaston, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

Steve Breaston's fantasy point totals have steadily increased the last three weeks and he just dropped 50 receiving yards and two touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts.

This is not a fluke. This is the result of being a good receiver and developing chemistry with Cassel.

The Oakland Raiders have trouble defending the pass, allowing 283.5 passing yards per game and 12 passing touchdowns for the season.

In a big divisional game, I expect Breaston and Cassel to continue their chemistry.

1. Matt Cassel, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Matt Cassel isn't a quarterback you want starting for you every week, but if you pick your spots from here on out he may surprise you.

Like Breaston, Cassel's fantasy point totals have increased in the last three weeks. In his last two games, Cassel has passed for 517 yards and five touchdowns to zero interceptions.

The Raiders are giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season and Cassel appears to have gotten past his early-season struggles.

If you are in need of a quarterback this week, Cassel's your waiver-wire wonder.
