UFC 137: Josh Koscheck and 3 Other Fighters Who Could Replace GSP vs. Condit
Following the news of Georges St-Pierre's knee injury, Josh Koscheck said he would be willing to step up on 11 days notice to fight Carlos Condit.
Although this sounded good in theory, Dana White quickly shot down the rumors by saying Condit must wait for St. Pierre to return from injury.
Waiting on the sidelines like Rashad Evans is a terrible move for any fighter, especially when there are a handful of options available for Condit and the UFC.
Josh Koscheck
1 of 4Koscheck is the most obvious choice to replace St-Pierre. He's coming off an impressive performance against Matt Hughes and took relatively little damage in that fight.
For Condit, his ability to deal with Koscheck's strong wrestling pedigree would give fans a good insight as to how he would be able to handle GSP's similarly robust wrestling in a future title bout.
If Condit were to beat Koscheck, the third best welterweight in the world, the win would cement Condit's place among the welterweight elite.
Jake Ellenberger
2 of 4Currently scheduled to face Diego Sanchez at UFC 141, Jake Ellenberger could see his UFC title hopes skyrocket by stepping up on short notice.
He's coming off a thunderous knockout of former challenger Jake Shields and has some unfinished business with Condit.
In 2009, Condit and Ellenberger fought to a split decision that saw Condit's hand raised.
Ellenberger undoubtedly wants revenge and stepping up on short notice would not only give him the revenge match he desires, but also put him in the good graces of Dana White and the UFC brass.
Jon Fitch
3 of 4Jon Fitch isn't known as a guy who is willing to step in on short notice, but he stands to gain a lot from fighting Condit.
Fitch is without a doubt the best welterweight in the world not named Georges St-Pierre, but that hasn't helped his relationship with Dana White. Utilizing a fight style often seen as unexciting, and having had various spats with UFC management over the years, Fitch has done little to make his boss happy.
Stepping up would put himself back in Dana's good graces and possibly get him that second title shot that he's been clamoring for.
Anthony Johnson
4 of 4Anthony Johnson just fought a few weeks ago but if he wanted to further his career as a title threat, a fight against Condit would be his best chance.
"Rumble" has the wrestling ability to take Condit down but also has some of the most powerful striking in the welterweight division.
If Johnson could make weight, an Anthony Johnson vs. Carlos Condit bout could provide fireworks.
