NFL Picks Week 7: Denver Broncos and Teams That Will Keep Struggling

Michael DixonOct 18, 2011

As things currently stand in the NFL, there are 13 teams below .500. So, for the sake of narrowing things down, let's only take a look at that group.

Of that group, we're going to eliminate the ones who won their last game. From there, we'll eliminate the teams that at least have a chance of winning this week.

These teams are below .500, coming off of at least one loss, and will lose again this week. As a matter of fact, these three teams have a combined three wins. Things won't get any better after Week 7.

Denver Broncos

This may be the team that has the best chance at winning, but that doesn't say much. The Broncos have a new quarterback in Tim Tebow, who will not have Brandon Lloyd to throw at.

While the Dolphins have yet to win a game, I like the way that they match up with the Broncos, especially at home. Normally, I can't predict a team to win that hasn't won yet, but I am breaking that rule here.

By the end of the year, the Broncos may well be headed in the right direction. That just won't start up this week.

St. Louis Rams

The Cowboys desperately need a win this week. The NFC East is filled with good teams. None of them are great, but they all are good enough to beat any team in the league. The Rams are just headed in the wrong direction, and a trip to Dallas doesn't promise to be any better.

DeMarcus Ware will give the Rams offensive line troubles all day, and Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten will torch the St. Louis secondary. They may be better than 0-5 suggests, but 0-6 awaits the Rams.

Jacksonville Jaguars

I like the direction that Blaine Gabbert is headed in. Jacksonville is doing a good thing playing him, and while he's certainly looked like a rookie at times, he is getting better.

But the Ravens defense is consistently one of the most feared in the game. Aside from that, the Ravens are just a much better team. Monday night's game will get ugly quickly.

Minnesota Vikings

Since we're on the subject of rookie quarterbacks going against top defenses, let's take a look at Christian Ponder, going against the Packers.

Honestly, even if Ponder plays great, this team has no chance of outscoring the Packers. Green Bay just has too many great weapons to think that Minnesota will stay close to them.

The Packers also have a great defense that will get an entire week to prepare for a rookie quarterback. Ponder does have Adrian Peterson at his disposal, but it won't be nearly enough.
