Carson Palmer: Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs, Betting Odds Update

Jeff GrantOct 18, 2011

The Oakland Raiders (4-2) are expected to have Carson Palmer at quarterback when the team hosts the Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) in a AFC West showdown Sunday inside the O.co Coliseum.

Sports bettors are digesting the news as Oakland remains a 3.5-point home favorite at most sports books, while the total continues to sit 1.5 points lower than the opening number of 43.

From a betting perspective, any movement above four is a betting opportunity on the underdog, as Palmer registered a 19-29-1 against-the-spread mark at home during his time with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Laying points is also dangerous proposition for bettors, as the former USC Trojans star is 17-30-1 ATS in that situation.

It's also important to note that he hasn't taken a single preseason or regular-season snap this year, remaining firm on his stance that he'd rather retire than return to Cincinnati's locker room.

Only Brett Favre could make this work out immediately, in my opinion.

I'm not surprised by the trade due to the potentially season-ending collarbone injury that Jason Campbell suffered last week, while former owner Al Davis always had an obsession with having a strong-armed quarterback.

Kansas City enters off a bye week and the defensive game plan doesn't change much between preparing for Kyle Boller, an injured Campbell or Palmer.

Some experts will suggest that the transition will not take long due to the 31-year-old signal-caller being familiar with first-year head coach Hue Jackson due to shared time in Cincinnati.

The Raiders also possess one of the league's best running attacks, with Darren McFadden leading the NFL in rushing yards.

Oakland's crazed fans will need to give this time, as a perfectly timed bye week is on the horizon.

Next up on the schedule is Denver, who is showing every indication of making a run at next year's No. 1 draft pick.

Professional bettors only care about the present, which leads me to believe that they will allow the casual fan to drive up the price—before hammering it down later this week.

Pick: Kansas City Chiefs (+4 or higher at this point)
