NFL Trade Deadline: Who Should Be Calling Browns About Peyton Hillis?

Chris TrapassoOct 18, 2011

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said on air that he believes the Cleveland Browns "could be persuaded" to move their star running back, Peyton Hillis before the 4 p.m. trade deadline on Tuesday.

His quote was used in a recent ProFootballTalk.com report

It is unlikely that the trade will go down, but there are a few teams that should be repeatedly calling the Browns for his services...

Dallas Cowboys

1 of 4

Cowboys fans remember the ghastly Roy Williams trade of a few years ago that was deemed a colossal failure.

However, a trade for Hillis would make a ton of sense right now.

Felix Jones is extremely injury prone and is averaging four yards a carry with no touchdowns.

That leaves DeMarco Murray and Tashard Choice as their lone tailbacks, guys who are more change-of-pace runners.

Hillis would bring a down-hill, aggressive style to the run game that would be well suited for Dallas, who needs some physicality on those 3rd-and-short scenarios.

I'm not sure what the Browns would ask for in return—probably a lot, but if the Cowboys are serious about contending for the NFC East crown this year, Hillis would be a huge upgrade.

Cincinnati Bengals

2 of 4

It's unlikely that the Bengals and Browns will make a deal being in the same division, but there are some reasons to like this trade if you're a Bengals fan.

Cincinnati is all of a sudden loaded with draft picks, and although it looks like Cedric Benson is only facing a one-game suspension, how many more years does he have left?

Hillis is only 25 and has only been a feature back for one season.

Maybe it's worth a shot?

New York Jets

3 of 4

Whenever there's a major, big-name player available in free agency or on the trading block, you've got to think of the New York Jets as a possible suitor.

They already have Shonn Greene as their bruising running back, but he's been somewhat of a disappointment this season, averaging only 3.4 yards per carry, and he has yet to reach the end zone.

With Rex Ryan as their coach, the Jets are always making a Super Bowl push, and tell me the Jets head guy wouldn't love the running style and physical nature of Peyton Hillis?

Washington Redskins

Just when we think the Redskins have found their feature back, they have a game like they did against the Eagles last week.

Washington totaled a mere 42 yards on the ground against one of the worst rushing defenses in the league.

Torain rushed 10 times for 22 yards on Sunday.

Hillis would bring more explosive power to the Redskins and could give them a legitimate starting back.

I'm not sure how long the running back shuffling can be successful.
