Jay Cutler Video: Watch Chicago Bears QB Curse Toward Mike Martz

Mike ChiariOct 18, 2011

Late in the second quarter of the Chicago Bears' 39-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, the NBC broadcast seemed to pick up Bears quarterback Jay Cutler cursing toward his own sideline.

It sounded as if Cutler either said "tell him I said (expletive) him" or "tell Martz I said (expletive) him." Martz, of course, refers to Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Chicago led 23-3 at the time so it is hard to imagine why Cutler would be so upset at Martz.

The Bears ran a draw play after Cutler's outburst so he may have been unhappy with Martz's conservative play calling, but there was hardly a reason to take an unnecessary chance with a 20-point lead near the end of the half.

Martz certainly hasn't been the offensive guru he was billed as since joining the Bears, as Cutler's numbers have dipped considerably from what they were in his final season with the Denver Broncos.

Chicago has also run the ball considerably more this season due to the success of running back Matt Forte. With that in mind, perhaps Cutler had some pent-up resentment he was just waiting to unleash upon Martz at the right time.

The Bears are a better team when Forte is running the ball well, though, so that would be awfully selfish of Cutler if true. Then again, there are countless reasons as to why Cutler could have been cursing at Martz.

Maybe Cutler was having flashbacks to the 19 times he's been sacked this season and just had a random outburst, although he really should be more mad at general manager Jerry Angelo for giving him such an awful offensive line.

There's also a chance that it wasn't football related at all, though. Maybe Martz called Cutler "twinkle toes" after he attended a Dancing With the Stars show to support his ex-fiance Kristin Cavallari. Or maybe he pulled out a real mean-spirited joke. Who knows?

Whatever the case, Cutler was clearly unhappy with Martz or somebody else on the sideline, and they'll need to rectify the situation and get on the same page if the Bears are to return to the postseason.
