Carson Palmer Trade: Should He Convince Oakland Raiders to Sign Terrell Owens?

Carson Palmer is now officially an Oakland Raider according to Adam Schefter via Twitter.

The Raiders are widely expected to be giving up a first-rounder in 2012 and another potential first-rounder in the 2013 NFL Draft, most likely based on Palmer’s performance.

Now that the Raiders have solidified their QB position for the next few years (Jason Campbell is a free agent after this season and will be leaving the team in all likelihood), they must address other needs.

One of the more interesting yet conceivably possible ideas is to reunite Palmer and Terrell Owens.

T.O. had a very statistically solid 2010 campaign with Palmer throwing him the rock.

He went off for 72 receptions, 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Raiders don’t have a true No. 1 receiver like Owens could be. Darrius Heyward-Bey is emerging as a deep threat but he isn’t the best option for a playoff team at this point in his career to carry the load.

Rookie sensation Denarius Moore is second on the team in receptions but is inexperienced and RB Darren McFadden is the third leading receiver after that.

If this team is serious about competing for the AFC West and making a deep playoff run this season, they need to score a big free agent who could help them win immediately.

Terrell Owens is the guy who could do that.

He told Stephen A. Smith in an interview with ESPN recently that he would be returning to the NFL in a month or less on Oct. 6.

Owens is 37 years old, but doesn't seem to be retiring in the near future. He says he is still in great shape and wouldn’t waste a team’s time by playing if he could no longer compete at a high level.

I would trust T.O. on this and especially if my QB was Carson Palmer, who knows exactly what he can do and made it work last season.
