Week 7 Waiver Wire: Eric Decker and Free Agents You Should Own

T.J. McaloonOct 18, 2011

The NFL season is full of surprises. Some surprises are good ones, like seeing the emergence of rookies Cam Newton, A.J. Green and Julio Jones as must-starts on your fantasy team every week. But, some surprises are bad, like seeing the injuries derail promising season to Andre Johnson, Kenny Britt and Jamaal Charles.

If you are on the good side of these surprises, kudos to you for getting lucky this year on the rookies.

However, for a majority of us fantasy owners, we have to bite the injury bug to high draft picks that may have ruined our teams.

This is why the waiver wire is here to save our dying season. Here are a couple players that will save your season, if you happened to have suffered a major loss this year.

Eric Decker, WR, Denver Broncos

Decker is benefiting from the trades that have either happened or are rumored to happen in Denver.

The Broncos already have traded away last year’s leading receiver, Brandon Lloyd, and are rumored to be taking offers for receiver Eddie Royal.

The movement of these receivers have opened up a world of opportunities for Decker to become Denver’s top receiver during the Tim Tebow era.

Colt McCoy, QB, Cleveland Browns

McCoy is on a Cleveland team that came into this year as a run-first, pass-second team, but recently have became a pass-heavy offense. The past two games, Cleveland has passed 60-plus and run 44 times, giving Colt a number of chances to have big fantasy days for his owners.

If you need a quarterback to take care of your bye week needs, then look no further than McCoy. He’s had no fewer than 14 points and no more than 19 points in five games this year.

He’s worth a roster spot and is a great backup quarterback to have.

Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Oakland Raiders

The former first-round draft pick is finally playing up to his potential in this Raiders offense. He’s strung together three good games against New England (11 fantasy points), Houston (15) and Cleveland (eight).

He’s worth a spot on your roster, since he is becoming worked into the Raiders offense more and more each week. Last week he saw a team-high nine targets in the win against Cleveland.

Jackie Battle, RB, Kansas City

Jackie Battle was everyone’s hot pickup two weeks ago, after the running back had a breakout game against the Indianapolis Colts. Battle rushed for 156 yards in limited action, as he replaced starter Thomas Jones.

Pick Battle up just in case he has another huge game against Oakland this week. Because if he does, Battle becomes a high-demand player, that you will already have.

These are four players that went mostly undrafted this year and are probably on your waiver wire right now. Go forth and pick them up now, before someone else in your league snatches them.
