Robert Rowell Is Hindering the Warriors with His Decisions

Steven ResnickDec 6, 2008

As of right now, most knowledgeable fans realize that Chris Mullin is just a figurehead for the Warriors. Mullin hardly has any power to make decisions for the Warriors. Considering the fact that everything that happens now with the Warriors must run through Robert Rowell, the Warriors' president, who's the right hand man to the owner of the team.

The Warriors needed a point guard after Baron Davis was not signed thanks to Rowell. With Al Harrington requesting a trade the Warriors had an excellent chance of bringing in a point guard who once Ellis got healthy would become the backup.

Instead, the Warriors bring in Jamal Crawford who as most fans know that Crawford is there to score and isn't known for his defense.

The Warriors are now 5-15 after the Spurs thoroughly dominated them. Now that the Warriors have lost their ninth straight game a change has to be made and it starts on the defensive end. The Warriors consistently have been playing selfishly and aren't even giving any effort on the defensive end.

In the 15 losses this year the Warriors have allowed their opponents an average of 58 points in the first half. During the five victories for the Warriors the team has allowed 52 points in the first half to their opponents.

During the offseason, the Warriors brought in Ronny Turiaf for his hustle, rebounding abilities, and his defensive presence. Turiaf was brought in because over the last two years the Warriors needed an interior presence off the bench.

Turiaf is the only Warrior that have been consistent on the defensive end but he is a backup and is known to commit a lot of fouls because of his energy and effort.

The problem for the Warriors is that Don Nelson also doesn't believe in playing young guys. Even though he previously stated in the offseason Warriors fans would be seeing more of Brandan Wright, Marco Belinelli, and even Anthony Randolph.

So far it's hard to gauge on any of the players mentioned. Although, Belinelli has requested to be traded because apparently Nelson stated the same thing he said to Al Harrington and that Belinelli would have more playing time this season.

Onto my point though with the lack of defense the Warriors need to get rid of the main problem and that is Don Nelson. Neslon has clearly lost it he is no longer making any decisions that make actual sense. The starting lineup constantly changes.

If Rowell hadn't gone off showing his absolute power over Mullin by extending Don Nelson's contract. If Mullin was allowed to do his job he would be able to grade the effort of the team under Nelson and see about extending his contract at the end of this season.

With the way the Warriors are playing now, it would have been easy enough for Mullin to fire Nelson.

With Rowell's decision to keep Nelson it has hindered the Warriors greatly. Since, most fans are wanting to see the youngsters play. The younger Warriors have shown glimpses of what they can do for the team, but again Nelson will play them 15-20 minutes one night and then the next night out five minutes.

It's time for a change for the Warriors. Don Nelson must go!
