Rajon Rondo Helps Hungry, Big Baby Cries, 2008 Sports Media Low Points

Josh NasonDec 6, 2008

As his professional career continues to improve, Rajon Rondo's stature as a fan favorite has improved as well. Days like Rondo had at a Manchester, N.H., supermarket Thursday certainly won't stunt that process.

The Boston Celtics' point guard made an appearance at Shaw's in Manchester as part of the Spirit of Giving Food Drive, where fans were asked to buy between $5-$15 for a bag of food that would be donated to the New Hampshire Food Bank. For their donation, fans could meet Rondo and get his autograph.

More than 100 bags of food were bought which means a lot of families in need will able to eat. As someone that did a tour of the Food Bank a year ago and was amazed at how bare the shelves were, this is a particularly great story to read about.

According to the story linked above, Rondo has made one appearance in Massachusetts as part of the effort and will do some more through Dec. 20.

Another Celtics player making the video rounds this weekend is Glen "Big Baby" Davis who didn't take well to Kevin Garnett's intensity during their game against Portland Friday night. In this clip, he's apparently...crying?

Regardless, my favorite Big Baby clip is still this one.

The LA Daily News' Tom Hoffarth (who writes one of my favorite blogs) put up his 2008 Dubious Dozen, 12 low points of sports media over the past year which is very entertaining stuff.

I love Hoffarth's subject matter and approach, even though I don't agree with his stance on MMA and boxing as I made clear on the Jim Rome Show a few weeks ago. (Email, not a guest spot...not yet anyway.)

- Congrats to NESN rinkside reporter Naoko Funayama who got married Saturday. A feature I wrote on her will run in the Winter edition of Manchester (NH) Magazine.
