Mike Sims-Walker: 3 Contenders That Should Target Disgruntled Wide Receiver

Eric BallOct 17, 2011

Well, that was quick.

After playing in five games for the St. Louis Rams, wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker has been cut in order to make room for their newest addition, Brandon Lloyd.

The sixth year receiver out of Central Florida looked to be the missing piece to a Rams offense on the cusp of something special. Five losses and only 139 yards later, plans have changed.

Here is the official tweet from Sims-Walker:

Now with the ability to sign with any team he pleases, here are three playoff contenders that could use Sims-Walker’s services:

1. Chicago Bears

It’s painfully obvious that the Bears offense is lacking a tough, slot receiver like Sims-Walker to go over the middle and make life easier for QB Jay Cutler.

With Roy Williams looking to be a huge bust, they need somebody to lineup along side Johnny Knox. When running back Matt Forte is your leading receiver—you know there’s a problem.

2. Tennessee Titans

The loss of Kenny Britt was a huge blow for the Titans offense.

When your top receiving threats are now Nate Washington and Jared Cook…you have a problem.

Sims-Walker is very familiar with the division and could step in and help right away. Considering the AFC South is shaping up to be the worst in all of football, a player like Sims-Walker could really elevate this team to new levels.

3. San Francisco 49ers

With Braylon Edwards out for the foreseeable future, the 5-1 49ers need to get Alex Smith more help.

Michael Crabtree has yet to live up to the hype and Josh Morgan is out for the year.

Having Vernon Davis and Sims-Walker crossing over the middle would be a huge addition to a team that is looking like a serious contender to not only make the playoffs, but also do some major damage once they get there.
