Jim Harbaugh Jim Schwartz: NFL Finds Nothing Wrong with Angry Handshake

Gabe ZaldivarOct 17, 2011

The great thing about sports is even something as benign as a handshake can cause quite a stir.

The Jim Harbaugh handshake heard around the world is reportedly destined to receive no backlash from the NFL

A rather calm Sunday received a great deal of excitement from the men that managed the sidelines. The biggest story on Monday was the handshake Jim Harbaugh greeted Jim Schwartz with after his 49ers defeated the Detroit Lions

Schwartz felt that he was disrespected by Harbaugh's gruff greeting and the two head coaches nearly came to blows. Fans were left to wonder how the league would receive the anger between the two.

It seems they are perfectly fine with it. NFL reporter Jason LaCanfora tweeted that the league would likely ignore the act and not issue any repercussions on Schwartz or Harbaugh.

After a day to temper our thoughts, I have to agree with the league's assessment. While the exchange was heated, there were hardly any infractions that took place aside form some rough shoving.

Granted, if the the two were able to get to one another after the handshake and some hands were laid on one another then the league would have had to issue some fines.

As it stands, this was one overzealous head coach living out his frustrations in public. Schwartz overreacted and it should be seen as nothing more than that.

Harbaugh did indeed go overboard with his enthusiasm, but that is hardly worthy of a monetary hit. So the NFL is doing what we all should, moving on.

Let's just say that these two men are very passionate about what they do and leave it at that.
