Dolphins vs. Jets: New York Will Get Back on Track with Monday Night Beatdown

Michael MillOct 17, 2011

I think it's safe to say that a 2-3 start was not the way that head coach Rex Ryan pictured the New York Jets kicking off the 2011 NFL season.

After a 2-0 start, the Jets fell off the last three weeks of the season. The Raiders, Ravens and Patriots all took down the Jets during their three game road stretch.

Tonight, the Jets are back home in New York and ready to rebound back against the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins.

Rex Ryan still has confidence in his team, although he hasn't gone about business in the same rash manner that we typically can expect from the exuberant head coach.

Maybe he should. That is the personality of this football team. They need to come out and play with passion tonight.

This is a team that is built on playing tough defense and stopping the run. Then they control the clock on offense and grind down opponents.

This year they have the 31st ranked rushing offense and the 28th ranked rushing defense.

That's not New York Jets football. It's definitely not Rex Ryan football.

Luckily, they may not need to play the prototypical New York style football tonight to walk away with a win over the 0-4 Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins have been terrible stopping the pass, so Mark Sanchez should be able to put together a solid night.

Their offense has also been almost non-existent. If Brandon Marshall holds to his word and does get thrown out of the game, then they will have no playmakers on offense.

Daniel Thomas would be the next biggest threat, and we recently learned that he may not be active tonight due to his continuous problems with his hamstring.

It may not be the prettiest win, but it should be enough to get the team rolling in the right direction. Momentum is big, especially with a team that is built on ego.

That ego should get a boost tonight.
