Dolphins vs. Jets: New York Defense Will Propel Rex Ryan's Squad to Big Win

Tonight's Monday Night Football contest between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets is likely to get out of hand, early.

The Jets are going to dominate every aspect of the game, but it will all start with their defensive unit, which is looking to get back on track after a less than ideal start to the season.

New York's rush defense is giving up a generous 4.2 yards per carry while their pass D is giving up 6.2 net yards per attempt.

Both numbers are about average for the league, but Rex Ryan's crew is used to being near the top of the league in both categories.

Luckily for the Jets, there's no better cure for an ailing defense than Matt Moore and the Miami Dolphins.

Moore, a five-year veteran from Oregon State, has had a pretty mediocre career so far with the Panthers, completing just 58 percent of his passes for 122 yards per game.

Because the Jets won't have to worry too much about Moore beating them in the air, they can stack the box to help their struggling defensive line.

Brandon Marshall is Miami's biggest weapon in the passing game, and with Darrelle Revis able to cover him single-handedly, New York will only need minimal personnel in the secondary.

Being able to put eight in the box will limit Daniel Thomas, who is far less than 100 percent in this one. 

Guys like Sione Pouha and Muhammad Wilkerson have been far from spectacular on the defensive line, but the Jets' linebacking corps is still second to almost none. 

By winning the defensive battle, the Jets will constantly start drives with good field position, and Mark Sanchez needs all the advantages he can get.

The Dolphins defense has struggled this year and the Jets should be able to move the ball fairly consistently, but Darrelle Revis, Bart Scott and company will make sure that's not necessary.
